I just broke into my own house...

And it was surprisingly easy.

Backstory: Thomas and I regularly joke about what would happen if we locked ourselves out. We have one key each, and Thomas has a good (but sometimes very bad) habit of locking the door on his way out. He frequently does this at inopportune times, like when he takes Jack out to pee late at night and I'm already in bed. He then calls me and tells me he needs in, and we always talk afterwards about how we need a spare, but for some reason have yet to make one (read: we're lazy).

Tonight, as Thomas was cooking hamburgers for dinner, the house got kind of smokey from the french fries cooking in the oven. I was pretty much choking to death, so I decided to unlatch and open a regularly latched window (foreshadowing, the good kind) to let some air in/smoke out.

My mom and I then went to sit in our tiny backyard to breathe freely and play with Jack. While we were out, Thomas came in and out a few times. One of those times, he casually approached the window and removed the screen. While I was staring at him questioningly, he said "our worst fears are realized." To me, this meant nothing...but clearly his point was that he had locked us all out of the house. He was going to climb in the window himself, but I volunteered since I'm pretty sure his shoulders wouldn't have made it through. Here is the evidence. Note: Please disregard the fact that I'm wearing fleece pajama pants with the Grinch on them. They're old, super comfortable, and were my only protection against the fierce Georgia mosquitoes of the night.

Before the big climb. Thomas assisted me with a chair.

Thomas helped me get in by pushing on my butt. Sweetest.

I'm in! Props to my mom for taking the pictures.

I was pretty pleased with myself for opening up the window to let the smoke out, because if the window had been latched...I'm honestly not sure what we would've done. Probably cried, paid a lot to have someone unlock the door, and then been grouchy. Needless to say, we'll be getting a spare made tomorrow. Live n' Learn, my friends.
